mRDC Was Killer App for Mobile Banking in 2017

Wednesday, January 17, 2018 (Malazai / Malauzai)

New report points to 35% increase in financial institution customers using mobile RDC.
U.S. financial institutions offering mobile remote deposit capture saw huge increases last year in the number of customers using mRDC. Malauzai Software reports that among client FIs that were live with mRDC for the entirety of 2017 mobile deposits rose a whopping 35%. Other key metrics, such as deposit values (which averaged $525) and number of monthly mobile deposits (2.6) remained constant, suggesting the source of growth was in end users, Malauzai said.

Malauzai, which specializes in digital banking solutions for community banks and credit unions, collects and analyzes data on mobile and internet adoption and usage by customers of the 300-plus FIs that have implemented its solutions. And it regularly publishes reports distilling that data.

In its latest report, published January 17, Malauzai noted that not only are more FI customers using mobile deposit, but among FIs offering both desktop and mobile RDC many customers are using both, with 2.5% of deposits coming in via desktop RDC. “This makes check deposit the killer app in mobile banking once again,” the company wrote.

Here’s another interesting data point offered by Malauzai: iPhones are more often used to access mobile banking services, like mobile deposit, than are Android devices.
