NCR Leads the ATM Industry with “No Envelope” Deposit Deployments

Friday, November 17, 2006 (NCR)

U.S. customers focus on deposit migration efficiencies and branch optimization
LAS VEGAS – At this week’s BAI Retail Delivery Conference & Expo, NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR) reported that it leads the market globally with deployments of “No-Envelope” Deposit technology for the automated teller machine (ATM) channel.

NCR has deployed over 2,200 ATMs in the United States which are capable of accepting both checks and cash directly at the ATM with no need for an envelope. This confirms NCR’s role as the leading player in intelligent ATM deposit technology. NCR is also the global leader in deployment of this technology, with nearly 19,000 intelligent deposit shipments worldwide.

While less than 1 percent of the 300,000-plus ATMs in the U.S. currently offer image-based depositing, industry analysts see potential ahead. Michigan’s Financial Plus Federal Credit Union, Chicago’s Advantage National Bank and Florida’s Commerce Credit Union recently became the latest U.S. financial institutions (FIs) to join the ranks of NCR Personas M Series customers delivering “No Envelope” Deposit functionality. Of the major FIs currently deploying imaged-based deposit, the clear majority have selected NCR. Likewise, NCR’s “No Envelope” Deposit technology is already deployed by more than 35 community banks and credit unions across the United States.

“While customers were initially deploying one or two units in test mode, we are now seeing double-digit deployments go live and full-scale rollouts being planned,” said Andy Orent, vice president for NCR’s Financial Solutions Division, Americas region. “We are certainly witnessing validation of our technology by our financial industry customers, and consumers love the technology. Exit interviews consistently show that consumers are more comfortable making deposits at the ATM because of the image-based receipt. Our FI customers in the U.S. are particularly interested in this technology as a first-step toward branch optimization.”

While NCR has had image-based deposit technology on the market for the past decade, interest spiked in the latest generation, particularly after the passage of Check 21. Deployments are also solid in Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom, as well as throughout Asia where the ability to easily accept cash at the ATM is important. While the majority of countries worldwide are not check-based environments, the application has seen increasing use as an enhanced customer service feature, often providing 24-hour banking services for the first time.

To ensure the smooth implementation of Intelligent Deposit within the complex front- and back-office banking environment, NCR customers tap into a complete suite of enabling services and materials. Among these are: business discovery workshops; training materials and courses such as concierge training, consumer awareness and usage, and branch/cash-in-transit (CIT) operations training; marketing and promotional campaigns, customer incentives; banners and signage samples; suggested consumer transaction flow and interface design and audit; comprehensive project management and installation services; image transfer and back-office integration; software development and modification; and business case consulting.
