Remote deposit services for individuals
Current business owners have requested that we offer remote deposit service to their personal account.
Does anyone offer this / have experience with this or comments?

Re: Remote deposit services for individuals
Along these same lines, we recently received the following question:

"Good afternoon.  I am hoping you can help.  I was given the task to investigate if a customer could enter their deposit information on a website then scan their check to the bank using their personal flatbed scanner.  I have looked at different aspects of ACH and cannot seem to find the perfect match plus there seems to be a lot of compliance implications.  It was suggested that maybe convert it to an IRD.  Any assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you"

Let's get this discussion going! Everyone's talking about it.... Let's figure it out. Thanks-

Re: Remote deposit services for individuals
I have a commercial client using Remote who happens to be a high net worth client wanting to add their personal account (that will act like a business account) to their list of available deposit accounts.

I see a lot of questions regarding allowing consumer/personal accounts to be set up for Remote Deposit.  I am tuned into all of the security, cost, etc. that would go with a consumer using Remote.  However, I cannot find a question about whether or not there are any Regs that would prevent a bank from allowing a personal account to be set up.  Does anyone have an answer?

Thank you.  Lori

Re: Remote deposit services for individuals
Hi,

I haven't found any regulations that would prevent a consumer from scanning a check. However, how the bank handles the IRD would fall under the expedited credit policy in Check 21. There are defined parameters as to how the IRD should be handled as opposed to IRD's in a business account which doesn't seem to be as defined.

We are looking at allowing individuals, who currently have business accounts using remote capture, the ability to scan checks into their personal accounts.

Checkfree/FISERV is rolling out a Consumer Remote Deposit Product.

Regards
Mike
