Consumer Capture
The Consumer Capture Webinar on www.RemoteDeositCapture.com generated many questions and discussions during the live event. Please feel free to continue the discussion here. A few examples include:

With the increase of payments and deposits being conducted through electronic services, such as ACH, e-bill payment, etc., fewer and fewer paper checks are being writtern. Has the future of a need for this service been considered?

Does the custmer scan front's only? Is scanning the back required to show endoresment?

What are the typical requirements for end-users to qualify for a consumer capture solution offered by their FI?

With commercial RDC we made a point to address secure storage & disposal of scanned items and inplemented annual site checks to ensure it's happening. To what extent is this applicable for consumers and how is it addressed?

Do you anticipate the FFIEC guidance to include Consumer Capture?  Any word on its issuance?

How do project the ability to enable mobile deposit capture using cell phones for RDC integrate or enhance consumer capture?

Has there been any data collected on the potential loss of cross selling other Credit Union products from the move to RDC?

are consumers willing to pay for this convenience?

Are all 'Consumer Capture' solutions that are/ will be looked into and offered, is the model typically only for FI's to offer it to consumers?

...Please continue the conversation here...

Re: Consumer Capture
In today's Webinar, I may have indicated that the upcoming FFIEC Guidance will not apply to Consumer Capture.... There have been a number of individuals (including myself) who (mistakenly) understood that the upcoming FFIEC Guidance will not apply to Consumer Capture.... That is incorrect.

I have just confirmed, via a direct conversation with the appropriate regulators:

The FFIEC guidance on RDC will apply to all forms of Remote Deposit Capture, including Consumer Capture.

The upcoming FFIEC Guidance is primarily based upon the current state and experience of the industry (pre-september 2008), and as such is built upon the experiences of the industry to date, which is primarily a relationship between a corporaion or business and their Financial Institution. Nevertheless, risk management practices should be uniquely tailored to each FI and their RDC customer - business, consumer, internal or otherwise.

Currently, it is estimated the guidance will be issued in October 2008.

More on this subject, including RDC Risk Management Best Practices, will be posted soon.
